Join the Fun at the Community Weed Pull & BBQ: Make a Difference in Our Forest on June 28th!

Are you ready to make a real impact in our stunning Community Forest? Join us on Saturday, June 28th, for a morning focused on restoring natural habitats and discovering how we can protect our environment. Together with the East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC), we are hosting a Community Weed Pull & BBQ at the Cranbrook Community Forest.

This event is a fantastic chance not only to contribute to our local ecosystems but also to enjoy a community gathering filled with delicious food. Are you excited yet? Let’s dive into the details!

What to Expect at the Community Weed Pull

On June 28th, we will meet at the Padawan Trail head near Carr Lake at 9:30 AM. Whether you’re an experienced weed puller or just starting, our team from EKISC will guide you through the process.

Why Pull Weeds?

Invasive species can dramatically alter natural habitats, outcompeting native plants for light, water, and nutrients. According to studies, invasive plants can reduce local biodiversity by up to 50%. By participating in this weed pull, you'll directly contribute to the health of our forests. Plus, you will learn how to identify invasive species, which is useful not just for this event but also for your own backyard!

Educational Opportunities

As you pull weeds, feel free to ask questions and engage with our knowledgeable EKISC representatives. They will share interesting facts about local plants and wildlife, as well as explain the risks associated with invasive species. You might leave with a greater awareness and respect for the native plants in our area!

The BBQ: A Reward for Your Hard Work

After a morning of teamwork, it's time to celebrate! From 12:00 Noon, we will fire up the grill for a delicious BBQ. Enjoy hot dogs, and refreshing drinks as you unwind and enjoy the company of fellow volunteers. Sharing a meal after our hard work is a great way to connect and relax.

Bring Your Friends and Family

This event is open to everyone—bring along your family and friends! Working together to help our environment strengthens community bonds while providing everyone, including kids, a chance to learn about caring for nature. Plus, it’s a fun way for children to get hands-on experience in environmental stewardship.
